We hope to give a better insight to the program by introducing our PhD students. We ask them about their research and how they became a member of our IRTG. This time we would like to introduce you to Viktoria who is working in our Project H – Stress Modulated Electromechanical Coupling of Lead-Free Ferroelectrics:

Where do you come from, and how did you become a part of the IRTG program?

I am from Fürth, located between both cities, which are included in the name of our university, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.

During my Master’s thesis, Prof. Brabec recommended that I apply for this interesting PhD program. After learning more about the research program, I wanted to be part of it, even though I had to start from scratch again within a new field of research.

Why were you interested in this IRTG program?

Preparing my master’s thesis in Prof. Brabec’s research group sparked a passion for working in academia. I wanted to be part of the IRTG program because it combines more in-depth educational training with close collaboration with Japanese universities.

Tell us a little bit about your current research for the IRTG.

For the IRTG, I am currently investigating photoferroelectrics. These material systems possess the ability for multimodal energy conversion, so using different natural sources simultaneously to generate energy. Therefore, we investigate the impact of tin doping on the photoferroelectrics response of BaTiO3.

What are you looking forward to most during your research stay in Japan?

I anticipate my upcoming research stay in Japan to immerse myself in the country’s vibrant culture and all it has to offer. I look forward to reuniting with beloved colleagues and friends, collaborating in an exciting new environment, and even getting to know more associates.

What is one goal in your life?

One of my aspirations is to live abroad independently and begin anew.
